“I am an Igboman.” Buju Banton

High profile Jamaican singer, Mark Anthony Myrie (born 15 July 1973) stage named Buju Banton has openly declared that he is an Igboman. The reggae artiste who made this claim was reacting to questions during a recent session of Drinking Champs podcast.

Recently, high profile celebrities in different occasions traced their roots to the Igbo speaking ethnic group in Nigeria. A couple of months ago, Jennifer Lopez adopted an Igbo name, “Ifunanya” as a part of her name.

Pastor T.G Jakes over 5 years ago, disclosed to the world that he was successful in tracing his roots to Igbo people in Nigeria.

Buju Banton’s claim also attracted some comments. A commentator who reacted to the claim disclosed that Buju is the short form of an Igbo name, “Chibuju”

As time goes on, more celebrities are expected to “declare” their Igboness.
