“Igbo alone can elect the Nig. president.” Phat Ojikeya.
2 min readHigh profile Akalite Mr Phat Ojikeya, has reminded the Igbo across the country that they alone, can decide and elect who becomes the next president of Nigeria. Ojikeya made this claim while having a political chat with Umuaka Times last week. Ojikeya who lived in Northern Nigeria before he travelled to West Indies, a couple of years ago, told Umuaka Times that the population of Igbo adults across Nigeria “is capable of giving any presidential candidate 25 percent of total valid votes cast.”
From indications and available facts, the overall population of Igbo people in Northern Nigeria is 12 million and it is known that the Igbo population across the country is the second largest population and at times the largest after or before the indigenous people. “The Igbo people should make use of this population and give us the best,” Ojikeya told Umuaka Times.
In a little calculation he presented, Ojikeya reminded Umuaka Times that 15 million persons including irregular votes elected Buhari in 2019 and Igbo have about 7 million voting adults in the North.”Minus 7 million from the votes of Buhari, you would get just 8 million votes. But too bad our Igbo brothers and sisters are not as interested as they ought to be in politics and in voting.”
On Lagos politics, Ojikeya expressed deep shock why the Igbo in Lagos are not doing a lot to support the candidate that will protect their interest. In his analysis, he observed: “Even with their rigging mechanism, Sanwo Olu was only able to score just 500,000 votes to emerge the governor of Lagos State in 2019. Are you aware that there are at least 1 million voting Igbo adults in Lagos? If one million Igbo adults will choose a candidate and stand by him, automatically that candidate becomes the governor of the state.”
While presenting the analysis, Ojikeya strongly maintained that as it is in the Northern states and Lagos, is how it is across the Nigerian political space. He further maintained that Ndi Igbo are yet to realize the pride and talents the Almighty God invested in them. He used the opportunity and appealed to all Igbo men and women of adult population to get their voters’ cards and use them wisely in 2023. He further appealed to town unions and churches to sensitize their members about the power of voting in a democracy.
