1 min read

The hope for the revival of Igbo language may have grown higher as reports reaching Umuaka Times from Holland have it that the Igbo community in Rotterdam, “a major port city in the Dutch province of South Holland” has started giving her children Igbo lessons. From the feelers Umuaka Times obtained from its correspondent in Holland, the Igbo lessons hold monthly when the Igbo community meets for its monthly meetings alongside with their children.

Umuaka Times gathered that every member of the organization makes it as a duty to bring his or her children to the meetings for them to learn the Igbo lessons.

The teachers who take the children in the Igbo language were said to be so impressed over the ability of the children to learn the language very fast and write it as well. A member of the organization disclosed to Umuaka Times that the teachers told the parents of the children to start communicating with them in Igbo language at home in order for them to improve on the language. Igbo lessons on written and spoken Igbo are taught to the children and there is a confirmation that their performances have so far been impressive.
