IITA begins food consumption survey in Umuezeala Uba.
1 min readThe National Food Consumption and Micro Nutrient Survey organized by the Ibadan based International Institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA, has reached Umuaka town. The community that was chosen for this survey in Umuaka is Umuisii in Umuezeala Uba.
When Umuaka Times visited the enumerators for the program activities, Mr Agu Ikechukwu who works with the National Population Commission NPC, told the newspaper that the survey looks into what people eat and drink and teach them what to eat and what not to eat. According to him, the result of the survey will be used to address the issues that will be raised by the research findings. “After the exercise, the result of the survey will be sent to IITA so as to create the strategy on how to reduce food related ailments,” he told Umuaka Times.
Mr Ikechukwu also informed Umuaka Times that the choice of Umuisii was not influenced by any factor because the exercise used a random selection mechanism. Umuisii according to him, was lucky to appear in the map used by the National Population Commission Abuja for the project.
Ikechukwu commended the people of Umuisii for the cooperation since the exercise started. However, he talked about the challenges they have encountered so far where some people think that the program is related to Corona Virus vaccine and as a result, they refuse to give out their full details.
