Ikwubuo justifies Imo awards. Blames mischief makers.

High Chief Eddy Eddy Ikwubuo, the Agunechemba Njabawho was among the top Imolites conferred with state merit awards a couple of weeks ago has also reacted to the talks and controversies across some villages in Umuaka that he and High Chief Arthur Obieze did not merit the awards conferred on them by Imo Newspapers Limited. In a voice note Chief Ikwubuo submitted to Umuaka in view of the controversies generated by the awards, a catalogue of reasons that qualified him for the award was given by the former Njaba Local Government chairman. The Agunechemba first of all wondered why some Akalites would have issues against the awards which came to Umuaka. Despite the reservations he deeply expressed over those who opposed the awards he and High Chief Obieze received, he still went further and gave his reasons and justifications for the award conferred on him by Imo Newspapers.
While justifying the reasons for the award, the Agunechemba Njaba High Chief Eddy Ikwubuo first disclosed that he was the last executive chairman of Njaba LGA and despite his short stay as the chairman of the Njaba Local Council, he achieved a lot. First, he told the audience that he was the brain behind the establishment of anti-kidnapping squad in Njaba LGA before the Imo State Government copied it and made it a state program.
Still on security, Chief Ikwubuo said in the voice note that it was under his tenure that the fencing of Njaba Police Station took place and he bought a GP tank and a generator and provided for the station.
On infrastructure, Ikwubuo told his listeners that he built the first modern plaza in Afor Umuaka and gave some shops in the plaza to some traders at no cost. The voice note also claimed that it was Chief Ikwubuo who laid the foundation of a particular public building at St Mary’s Church,went ahead and attracted a mast within the vicinity to enhance communications. He also mounted another mast in Uba community and was allowing people to be receiving calls free of charge in his country home.
One of the prominent works if not the most prominent the Agunechemba did while in office as the chairman of Njaba LGA was the grading of all the major roads in the local council, especially in Umuaka during his tenure as the LG chairman. The Agunechemba also told Umuaka Times that he used his personal generator and electrified some parts of Uba tagged a bad spot for criminal activities.
In his conclusion, Chief Eddy Ikwubuo told his audience that he has also provided scholarships to many students and the scheme is still ongoing in Umuaka. He further confirmed in the voice notes that as the chairman of Akah Federal Union, he organizes security meetings with royal fathers and other stakeholders in the community on how to move the community forward.
While holding talks with Umuaka Times, Chief Ikwubuo disclosed that all the things he does are to receive awards but if awards come, he will accept them.
In December 2022, Umuaka Times Unity and Progress Service Award was won by High Chief Ikwubuo. Citing the justifications for the award, Umuaka Times wrote:
“High Chief Ikwubuo has held several meetings with traditional rulers in Umuaka Municipal Council on the way forward for Umuaka. He has summoned all the presidents-general in Umuaka Municipal Council on how best to resolve the Umuaka Community Hospital crisis. Dr Ikwubuo did all these with his personal resources.
“He single handedly resolved a high court case between Uba community and Eze Justin Ezeala of Obinwanne thereby promoting peace and diplomatic relations between the two communities. Intervened positively with the former IMC chairman of Njaba LGA on the Uba Umuaka Relief Market crisis. He also mediated and assured peace between the developer of the market and the various land owners at the market.”
