Imo biz-man wants tariff on imported building materials removed.

An Imo State based businessman and building contractor, Engineer Nnamdi Okebaram has appealed to the Federal Government of Nigeria to come to the aid of sellers of building materials especially those who sell imported building materials. The Engineer who practically appealed to Umuaka Times to use its contacts to reach out to the government of Federal Republic of Nigeria to assist them by removing the high tariff importers pay before importing materials like POP cement. Okebaram who is the CEO of Nna Best Global Enterprise Umuaka, a building materials trading firm which specializes in the supply of POP materials such as cement, sponge, range, concrete nails, binding wire, oil, soap and screeding materials screeding paint and more specifically wants the involvement of the Federal Government on Nigeria to get fully involved in the business with some incentives.

Okebaram listed some factors that have made the cost of building materials rise to the top. According to him, dollar rate, shipping tariff, cost of clearing, high cost of diesel and local transportation collectively created a very big negative impact in the business. “Before we use to hire a trailer from Aba to Umuaka at the cost of N150,000 or less but today it is about N250,000 and even more.”

On the side of government, Okebaram appealed to the government to always understand that shelter is a necessity which everybody is supposed to have. The businessman finally raised fears that if the cost of building materials continue to go high, many people will be homeless in the nearest future.
