Indigent umuada Umuezeala Uba receive financial assistance.

An organization known as Umuada Umuezeala Uba Umuaka from Njaba LGA Imo State has reached out to her members who are currently undergoing one form of challenge or another. The organization held this program on Monday 9 March 2026 under the leadership of Eziada Ogechi Ubasonye (nee Osuagwu). Other members of the executive include the secretary-general who participated in the program included Eziada Chizoba Nwagbara (nee Okunwa), financial secretary, Eziada Rita Ubochi (nee Duru), treasurer. Eziada Adamma Ojinnaka (nee Ukachukwu) and assistant secretary-general, Eugenia Ugorji (nee Ikeme).

The women who gathered at Obi Ikeme in Umuagba Umuezeala Uba on Monday 9 March 2026 began the visitations as early as 9 am on the appointed date. The group visited some of her members who are indigent and presented some cash gifts to them at their various homes.

The chairlady of the women Lolo Ogechi Ubasonye told Umuaka Times that the beneficiaries of the program did not only include women but some indigent men and women from Umuezeala who they described as their brothers and wives that also needed some form of assistance. About 12 families benefited from the program and two of them are from AmurieOmanze in Isu LGA.

Umuaka Times gathered that the program was aimed at showcasing love to the needy and to set the pace for other umuada unions in Umuaka to emulate.

During a launching which was organized by Umuada Umuezeala Uba in December, they promised to help their fellow members who are undergoing some financial and medical difficulties.

In Igbo culture, especially in Umuaka, Umuadarefers to the daughters of a particular community or clan, often married outside their hometown. They’re a vital part of Igbo society, playing significant roles in cultural, social, and economic affairs in the community as demonstrated by umuada Umuezeala Uba last week.

The roles of umuada include being the custodians of culture: Umuada preserve and pass down cultural traditions, customs, and values to the younger ones.

Conflict resolution is another key role of umuada; they mediate disputes, promoting peace and harmony within the community. They also act as advisers which gives them the opportunity to advise their brothers (menfolk) on important matters, leveraging their experience and wisdom.

Umuaka contribute financially and support economic development in their hometown and villages. They also engage in social welfare activities such as community development projects, like building schools, hospitals, and roads.

In Igbo society, Umuada wield significant influence, often referred to as “ogene” (the voice of the community). They’re respected for their impartiality, wisdom, and dedication to community well-being.
