Lolo Ikwubuo: The events at the VIP canopy.

3 min read

During the burial last week of Lolo Roseline Ego-Oyibo Ikwubuo, the mother of the APC stalwart and maverick politician from Njaba, High Chief Eddy Ikwubuo, the VIP canopy was under heavy security because of the class of personalities that graced the ceremony. Top APC politicians, government appointees, businessmen, royal fathers, professors, high profile PDP members and other top personalities from the organized private sector were all there. In fact, it was like a display of notable personalities in Imo State and beyond. To gather all these personalities together was never an easy task but Chief Ikwubuo, the Agunechemba Njaba, made it look so easy on face value.

When Umuaka Times gained access into the canopy, it was like an inaugural party after a governorship election had been won. Irrespective of political affiliations, the politicians sat side by side with each other. They drank together and ate together.  The service girls who were serving food and drinks to each table, elegantly caught the image of five star waitresses anywhere around the world. The different types of food both local and intercontinental served at the event made the guests feel at “home” as if they were indeed inside a five star hotel.

The event served as a reunion for different personalities who have not seen each other for long as they embraced each other and exchanged both greetings and phone numbers. Trust VIPs. They know how to pull effects, command respect in public and crack deep jokes. Such activities, Umuaka Times observed, were never in short supply throughout their stay in the exclusive VIP canopy.

To make sure that everything went as planned, the Agunechemba himself practically turned himself into the chief servant and supervisor of the VIP canopy as he personally identified with each canopy. Almost each table he went to, was interested to pose for  group photograph with him.

Despite his attention that was sought by almost all the VIPs, Chief Ikwubuo ensured that all gift items got to their real owners., he personally presented the gift items to all the VIPs in attendance inside the VIP canopy. The more he made the presentations,  the more the VIPs sought his attention either to thank him or to snap pictures with him. Agunechemba is indeed a timeless workaholic.

After the light and heavy refreshments inside the VIP canopy, they VIPs came out at will to meet special entertainers like Umuezeala woman cultural dance group, Ohafia War Dance group, ekeleke group and other live bands.

High Chief Eddy Ikwubuo indeed turned the burial of his  mother into a sensational soap opera where many actors and actresses came, saw and finally conquered. The VIP canopy, represented the red carpet segment of the event. Umuaka Times was the official newspaper of the burial ceremony.

Last week, several indications emerged at several avenues in Umuaka suggesting that now that High Chief Edwin Ikwubuo has introduced the use of limousine during events in Umuaka, other high profile Akalites may most likely make it a new tradition in the community to use limousines to pull effects while holding events. The first guy who brought a limousine in Umuaka was Mr Kizito Nduwuba Iwuchukwu who died a couple of months ago in Lagos. Since that time, no other guy has done so except the Agunechemba himself.
