My Mother, My Sweet Mother. By Chinenye Unanma.
2 min readNnem…it’s still a pain to walk past your room and you won’t be there to welcome me home from work. Your sojourn on earth was a fulfilled one. I am very proud to be called your son. You were hard work, perseverance and focus personified. You were outspoken, yet very personable. You were a worthy assistant to our father in every aspect of life. I can still remember how you were taking us for evangelism to every household around us. Yes, our Dad was a pastor, but you played a key role in making us know God. I have always and still wondering where you derived the strength to help build our ministry. There are so many great and palatable stories to tell about you. You were a real mother.
The later part of your life made me see how frail and transient life is. In bringing us up, you went all the way leaving no stone unturned in your bid to give us the best. I was a witness to how you were vilified and given several derogatory names because you owed to make us feel the best.
I am happy today because all those that gave you those derogatory names saw you enjoy life and even enjoyed your benevolence. Nwanyi Uwa Mgbede as we fondly call you….a name that was derived from your believe and preaching that tomorrow holds the best. Mummy it’s a pain that you have gone, but I feel strong, because I had the privilege of being with you in your twilight years. For some reasons not known to me, my name was the identifier for you and Daddy.
You were called Nma Nyenye and I remain fulfilled to be the one with that tag. You never stopped blessing me and wife while you were alive. While I am pained for your death, I am consoled because you lived a life worthy of emulation. Rest well mum. We love you. My wife, Ihechi, Adaukwu, Nadi and Ike say goodbye till we meet again.
Goodbye Nma Nyenye.
