2 min readThe celebration of Umuezikoha Progressive Union Day by Umuezikoha Progressive Union which was held yesterday being Wednesday 3rd January 2024 in the premises of Hilltop Primary School Uba Umuaka was a success indeed. By the time Umuaka Times reporters arrived at the venue of the event, many dignitaries had already seated and the MC., Chris Iwuji, was announcing more names and recognizing them.
As a side attraction, Umuezikoha women dance group was called upon to perform after the guests had taken the opening prayers and kola nuts served. More important guests continued to arrive for the event.
The MC at this point had to announce the name of the chairman of the occasion in the person of Mr Samuel Chidi Iwuoha. Soon after his name was announced, he came to the high table with his wife.
Remember, the Umuezikoha Day celebration was a move to creating awareness through the launching of a brochure and present awards to the deserving indigenes of the community. To spice up the event, Umuezikoha women dance group was one of the entertaining groups during the event. When the group was called to perform for the second time, the performance was obstructed midway because of the arrival of Eze Henry Ojinnaka. After welcoming the royal father to the event, the traditional greetings to the monarch was taken and kola nuts were then presented to him.
In a few minutes time, the occasion continued. The next segment which had more prominence was the launching of the brochure which was anchored by Chief Tony Ebubedike Okpara. Chief Okpara called out all the personalities at the high table and gave them the microphone one after the other to personally launch the brochure. The chairman of the occasion Mr Chidi Samuel Iwuoha was the first to open the chapter. He announced a donation of N250,000 on behalf of his wife. The next person who announced his donation was Mr Goddy Nwadibia, the elder brother of the chairman. He donated N100,000. Prof Kingsley Obioha made a donation of N200, 000. Mr Anthony Onyemepu 500k, Dr Ifeanyi Osuchukwu 200k, Chief Marcel Duru 250k, Dr Obinna Duruji 100k, Hon. Ozioma Worship, 100k and Chief Linus Nwokeocha 200k.
Others were Declan Iwuala 200k, Festus Chima Okoro 70k, Dr Austin Agbahiwe 200k, Chief Solo Obioha 50k, Vin Duru 300k, Dr Bernard Nwaiwu 1m, Chief Vitalis Nwanyanwu 100k, Emeka Dire 200k, Victor Egenonu 100k, Dr Uche Oguike 300k, Goddy Okpara 50k, Caesar Okoro 500k, Ikenna Duru 100k, Engineer Vice Onyemepu 100k and Chief Chris Nwachukwu 500k among others.
There were also others who made some substantial donations during the launching. By the time the launching came to an end, presentation of awards was the next and last segment. Dr Chris Nwachukwu and Mr Ik Ehirim were among the recipients of the awards.
