Chief Hyginus Okpara, Ekwueme 1 of Umuaka, high profile Akalite, top community leader and the Chief Executive Officer of Anyakamkpaele Oil Mill Limited has warned that due to the indiscriminate felling of palm trees in Umuaka and other parts of Nigeria especially in Igboland, to make ways for modern houses, the country will soon run out of palm oil business and supplies and fully depend on the importation of palm oil from countries like Malaysia. Chief Okpara made this point while answering questions from an Umuaka Times reporter in Uba Umuaka last week in an event.

Chief Okpara who told Umuaka Times how he started the business of palm oil refinery (oil mill) a few years ago in Umuaka commended the former government of Chief Achike Udenwa who facilitated the citation of the firm through the provision of some technological incentives.

On the problems of the business of palm oil supplies in Igboland, Chief Okpara frowned at the rate by which people fell trees, build houses on the same land and will never plant trees to replace the ones felled. He further stressed the need for the Federal Government of Nigeria to stop the importation of palm oil from Malaysia and encourage local producers.

Another problem Chief Okpara identified was the failure of the state government in giving palm fruits to the local producers at cheap rate. This according to him, has made many producers to seek for other sources.

The Anyakamkpaele Oil Mill Limited was named after the mother of the CEO of the firm and it is located close to Imenweke Uba Umuaka.
