Nigerian authors honour Nwaeze Vincent Chimnemezu.

Just a couple of months ago when an Akalite, Mrs Nneka Joyce Duru beat other poets from 25 African countries and emerged as the winner of an international poetry competition titled African Writers Award organized by African Writers Trust, another Akalite was again honoured a couple of days ago in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria by the Association of Nigerian Authors, Abuja Chapter.
The event which was held live on the internet, saw the Umuaka born writer, social worker and poet, Mr Nwaeze Vincent Chimnemezu read his poems while thousands of poetry students, their lecturers and more watched him live across the world in an occasion tagged February Book Reading event. In commending the event and its packaging, a document obtained by Umuaka Times from the poet expressed satisfaction over the organization of the event.
“Adapting to the new normal of existence occasioned by Covid-19 crisis where the internet has provided an easy alternative to physical or one on one assembly, another milestone was recorded by Association of Nigerian Authors, Abuja Chapter as her maiden online guest author reading which featured an exciting guest author, Chimnemezu Nwaeze (Vinepaul) took off on an impressive note.”
When all was set for the big event, the prolific author, Mr Nwaeze Vincent Chimnemezu was ushered in at exactly 6:15 pm to start reciting his poems. He started with the poem titled, Covidmadness. This poem Umuaka Times later gathered was accepted and published in the 63rd edition of European Envoi in 2020. According to him, “The poem chronicles the absurdities that arose as a result of China’s 2020 gift to the world…”
Mr Nwaeze Vincent Chimnemezu has written many books and poems. some of his books include Angels of Life, Gold From the Slum, Back to Roost and Joy in the Time of Corona. Above all these books, the author also has a collection of his poetry works titled Tears Before Bedtime. It was from this collection that he recited his poems during the event.
From the findings made by Umuaka Times, Chimnemezu Nwaeze is a poet, novelist, dramatist and essayist from Umuaka in Njaba LGA Imo state, Nigeria. He is graduate of English language and Literary studies from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, and a member of Association of Nigerian Authors ANA Imo State and FCT Abuja Chapters respectively. His literary works have been published in so some national and international journals including the 2020 European ENVOI issue 63, NASELS Nigeria Poetry and Prose Literary Anthology 2018, ANA Imo ‘Ogene’ Creative Anthology 2020 and more.etc.
