“Nursing; not for women alone.” Angela Ikeme.
1 min readAgainst the backdrop that the nursing profession is exclusively for women, a top official of Merit College of Nursing Umuowa has appealed to men to tap into the nursing opportunity and become professional nurses by undergoing the basic and academic trainings associated with the profession. Lolo Angela Ikeme, the Executive Provost of Merit School of Nursing Sciences dropped this hint in an exclusive interview with Umuaka Times during the matriculation program of the college held last week in Umuowa Imo State.
While answering questions from Umuaka Times reporters who covered the event, Lolo Ikeme acknowledged that years back, the nursing profession was regarded as women’s affair. “Traditionally, it has been for the women alone but now men are finding out that they too can tap into the profession as well.”
On her reasons for encouraging men to go into nursing, Lolo Ikeme disclosed that nurses usually get jobs after their intensive trainings. She also further stated that the presence of men in the nursing profession brings diversity. She described this move as highly commendable.
Before she ended the interview with Umuaka Times, Lolo Ikeme encouraged parents to send their male children to Merit College of Nursing because there are different branches of nursing they may be interested to study.
She used the opportunity and congratulated the matriculating students of the institution.
