Perry Ekwunazu bags Umuaka Times Merit Award.

In its move to reward several Akalites who had immensely contributed to the development of their autonomous communities and Umuaka in general, Umuaka Times communications, the publishers of Umuaka Times online newspaper recently announced the name of Dr Perry Uche Ekwunazu as being among the 50 Akalites who emerged as Umuaka Times Who is Who Awardees 2025 Diamond Edition.

The award was presented to Dr Perry Ekwunazu who has used his personal resources at diverse times to uplift his community by the royal father of Amiyi Akah Autonomous Community HRH Eze Francis Ahanotu, the Iyi of Amiyi.
As guests who came to witness the reception had gathered, the MC announced that the presentation of the award coincided with the grand reception the Ekwunazu couple was holding to mark their chieftaincy and ezinne titles respectively. To begin the presentation, an internationally acclaimed poet, Joe Blaize Nnaemeka Akanazu who wrote a poem as a part of the citation for Dr Ekwunazu called out two little girls who recited the poem. Immediately that was done, the microphone was then handed over to the Amiyi monarch who used the opportunity and extolled the virtues of Dr Perry Ekwunazu and thanked Umuaka Times for recognizing the humanitarian activities of such a highly industrious personality with a merit award.

The award was then handed over to Dr Ekwunazu who accepted it with joy and later made an acceptance speech. In his speech, he thanked Umuaka Times for finding him worthy for the honour and all the people who came from far and wide to honour him and his family on the special occasion. He assured the gathering of his determination to continue his social works for Amiyi Akah and Umuaka in general. A donation of N500,000 was announced by the awardee to support the activities of Umuaka Times and a sum of N50,000 each to the two little girls who recited the poetic citation during the presentation.
The Umuaka Times Who is Who Merit Award was designed in recognition of some individuals in the community who have at diverse occasions played prominent roles to lift the status of their communities to higher levels. Four other indigenes of Amiyi Akah also won the award.
