Queens of 1990 holds get-together in grand style.

The Queens of 1990, an old girls association of Girls Secondary Technical School Umuaka who graduated in 1990 really had full fun that brought some of them very close to tears on January 2, 2022. The old students led by their former senior Prefect, Queen Vivian Orisakwe started to arrive at the school premises by 1 pm on the eventful day which the girls had renamed a Day to Remember. Sooner, the Umuaka Times reporter who was billed to cover the event arrived and he was given a standing ovation. After a warm exchange of greetings, the queens went to work. First they gathered at the school assembly ground where they sang songs from the hymn book and later ended it up with prayers and the reciting of the National Anthem.
Immediately this came to an end, the girls marched back to their “class rooms.” Something secular happened as they were about to move to their classes. The SP, Queen Vivian Orisakwe, read the riot act to them. Hear her. “Students, you know today is a busy day, I don’t want to see any student loitering from one corner of the school to the other. The moment you leave, go straight to your different classes otherwise you will have yourself to blame. Did I make myself clear? The whole queens responded, “yes madam” and burst into deep laughter.
On getting to their different classes, which was the venue of the event, the SP directed that each student should stand up and mention her name so that others would recognize her. That was done almost immediately and she then presented the welcome address she had prepared for the old students. After reading the address, the queens stood up and clapped for her for a job well done.
To make the fun to get really deep in the blood veins of thequeens, they incorporated track and field events, manual labour, 100 meters senior girls and other activities including quiz competition but due to time constrains, they old girls were not able to take all the segments mapped out for the day.
The emotional side of the event was when the queens stood up and observed 1 minute silence for the soul of their former queens.Umuaka Times gathered that about 10 of them have so far died. This was followed by the cutting of the Unity Cake by the queens. They all gathered together and the SP cut the cake after the spelling of the name Jesus.
At the end of the program, the old girls who are now mostly queen mothers took enough time to take crazy pictures which brought out the real secondary school life in them one after the other.
They really took time to dance and all thanks to Queen Vivian Orisakwe who supplied the music of the 80s and 90s for her fellow students.
Most of the queens who missed the event really regretted for missing it and as it stands now, the 2022 get together of the Old Girls Association of Girls Secondary Technical School Umuaka 1990 set, promises to be better than what was obtained in 2021.
The Queens of 1990, have indeed proved that they are queens.
