St. Saviour’s Sec. Sch. Umuaka Makes Another History.

History was made in the Catholic Diocese of Orlu today, Wednesday 12th March 2025, as St. Saviour’s Secondary School, Umuaka, emerged winner in the debate competition organised for all the secondary schools of Orlu Diocese.
The competition started at the regional levels on Tuesday, 4th March 2025. Three schools qualified from each of the four regions of the Diocese. Hence, a total of twelve (12) secondary schools engaged in the intellectual tussle at the Orlu Secretariat Hall today. The schools are: Urban Sec. Sch. Umuna, St. Maria Goretti Sec. Sch. Umudioka, Fr. Courtney’s Mem. Sec. Sch. Ihioma, St. Saviour’s Sec. Sch. Umuaka, Sancta Maria Sec. Sch. Umuaka, Holy Family Sec. Sch. Umundugba, Pax Christi College, Uli, Holy Trinity Sec. Sch. Omuma, St. Basil De Great Sec. Sch. Awoommama, Cor Maria Girls High Sch. Urualla, St. Domnic Savio Sec. Sch. Ntueke and Holy Cross Sec. Sch. Obodoukwu.
During the first round of the debate, the participants debated on the topic: Should Schools Emphasise Practical Skills over Theoretical Knowledge?”. At the end of this phase, eight schools were eliminated while the following schools qualified for the second round in this order: St. Saviour’s Sec. Sch. Umuaka (1st), Urban Sec. Sch. Umuna (2nd), Sancta Maria Sec. Sch. Umuaka (3rd), Fr. Courtney’s Sec. Sch. Ihioma (4th).

During the final phase, the participants argued on the topic: “The role of Technology in Schools: Boon or Bane.” Interestingly, at the end of this phase also St. Saviour’s Secondary School, Umuaka, emerged winner. Sancta Maria Secondary School, Umuaka (2nd), Fr. Courtney’s Sec. Sch. Ihioma (3rd) and Urban Sec. Sch. Umuna (4th).
At the end of the debate, the chairman Orlu Diocesan Education Commission, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Bernard Ukwuegbu and the Secretary Orlu Diocesan Education Commission, Rev. Fr. Dr. Samuel Obasi handed over the Cup of Victory to the representatives of St. Saviour’s Secondary School, Umuaka. Meanwhile, Fr. Charles Anagwo, the substantive principal of St. Saviour’s Secondary School, Umuaka, expressed his joy and satisfaction over the good conduct of the debate.
However, it should be recalled that on the 29th of November, 2024, St. Saviour’s Secondary School, Umuaka also emerged winner in the Imo State Secondary Schools Debate Championship organised by the Unique 85 in collaboration with the Imo State Ministry of Education at Government Secondary School, Owerri.
