4 min readEzinne Lolo Sabina Duruegbusuo was born in the year 1933 to the family of DURUONWEREAKU CLAN.
She was the first daughter of High chief Duruonwereaku’s third wife named ULOAKU of Duruogbujiumu Duruoribe in Amiyi-akah. Our Mother grew up in a very large family of High Chief Duruonwereaku of Duruogbujiumu DuruoribeAmiyi-akah. She attended Saint Mary’s Standard School in Umuaka. Our Mother got married to our late father, EZE NICHOLAS AKUBUEZE O. DURUEGBUSUO in 1957, and wedded in 1958 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church Umuaka. The union was fruitfully blessed with nine children of which four are no more. May the soul of the faithful departed rest in peace Amen. Our mother’s survived by 5 children, 8 stepchildren, 18 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
MAMA’S LIFE
Our mother lived a life that has been both unconventional and traditional. She was raised by a very strict but not over bearing parents. They instilled in our mother a sense of self discipline, benevolence and an appreciation for hard work, that remained with her throughout her life. The core values taught to our mother by her parents enabled her to succeed against all odds in life. Although her religious upbringing has positively affected her identity, character development and closeness to GOD by embracing righteousness and spirituality. Our Mother’s childhood life style was eventful. She attended saint Mary’s Standard School and eventually did not further more.
Our Mother’s life was a life well lived but truncated by early and unexpected illness few years ago. Our mother was the heads of various social organizations in the past for our dear community and beyond. Our Mother participated in many social activities with our father. Our Mother was a core Christian, she participated in many church activities both at the Catholic diocese of Orlu, St. Mary’s catholic church umuaka then and now, her own parish, Holy Rosary Catholic Church umuele Amazano Njaba L.G.A., Imo State. As a member and devoted Christian mother in the Holy Rosary Catholic Parish in umuele Amazano, she took part in so many developmental projects. Our Mother’s family life saw a lot of obstacles and challenges of which she scaled through it with love. She preached always about love, unity and peaceful co-existence amongst ourselves.
SHE WAS A MOTHER TO THE COMMUNITY
Mother was indeed a blessing to her community as she stood by her husband Immediately she got married to him throughout the struggle of what we have today as our own community called AMAZANO, her was in several occasions brutalized, arrested, detained and maltreated for(ASKING FOR AMAZANO AUTONOMOUS FREEDOM).
Thank God almighty that what she stood for with her husband since 1958 and was cajoled is now the beautiful bride of nowadays.
Our mother engaged in community services and practices to her fullest capacity. She was always there for the needy, always benevolent in her dealings with any person that came in contact with her. She gave her all for the progress, peace, unity and joy of the community without expecting anything in return, our mother was indeed a perfect example of a humanitarian, who didn’t have enough resources to sacrifice but sacrificed more than she had (mother was equal to none).
A SUPPORTIVE MOTHER
Our Mother was very patriotic and resilient; she was very supportive to our father’s business when they got married. Our Mother engaged herself in petty trading businesses, daily contributions and farming during those difficult days During and after the civil war our mother was a figure people looked up to because she never ceased to be supportive and provide for the injured, hungry and needy.
A MOTHER OF LOVE.
Our Mother loved her family so much; she was a symbol of love and care that was depicted across the community. She was loved and accepted by all because of her religious activities, penetrative, kind-hearted and caring life.
A HUMBLE MOTHER
Our Mother was an elegant woman during her time, she was never insultive and arrogant, and no matter the provocative situation she always smiled with an open arms. She was nicknamed by her fellow women, (NWANYIOBIOMA).
MOTHER AS A TEACHER TO ALL
Mother was very supportive and understanding to us all as she was our first teacher, friend, inspiration, counselor and director. Our Mother made us find our self-esteem and confidence, and never over pampered any of us. While we were growing up, mother taught us different farming methods like cultivation of farms produce, and also how to make garri. Thank you our dearest mother for always been there for us.
AS BRAVE AS A LION
Mother was a brave, smart and intelligent woman. None of her off springs suffered from any diseases resulting from under feeding or lack of care, she was always providing for us without ceasing. She made sure our lives were saved from the heroic gestures of Biafran civil war.

We are happy that you were our mother. We will miss you dearly.
