For those who may not know, Professor Emeka Duruigbo is a renowned Nigerian-American law professor based in the USA. He’s a professor at Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law, specializing in Energy Law, Business Law, International Economic Law and International Oil and Gas Law. His expertise has led to invitations to speak at high-level conferences globally, including The Hague. Duruigbo’s academic background is impressive, with degrees in law from the University of Benin, University of Alberta, Golden Gate University, and Stanford University. He’s licensed to practice law in Umuaka, Nigeria and California.

Some of his notable works include “Fracking and the NIMBY Syndrome” and “International Law and Development in the Global South,” a book he co-edited. An American based source disclosed to Umuaka Times that Duruigbo has also been recognized for his contributions, including being named Faculty Member of the Year by the African Law Students Association at Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 2016.
Recently, Duruigbo and his wife, Cherish, made headlines for sponsoring the NECO registration fees for final-year students at High School Umuaka in Nigeria, showcasing their philanthropic efforts. An American newspaper Umuaka Times came across recently confirmed that his works have been cited by state and federal courts and featured in international conferences.
Beyond the academia, Professor Duruigbo is a philanthropist and a member of the advisory board of the Institute for Energy Law and the Education Advisory Board of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators AIPN. Recently, Duruigbo and his wife Cherish through their foundation, Emeka and Cherish Duruigbo Foundation donated some large amount of money for the NECO registration for final year students at High School Umuaka. Duruigbo started his academic journey at Hilltop Primary School Uba Umuaka and later enrolled at High School Umuaka where he graduated in 1986, before proceeding to the University of Benin.
