“The more I fight the more energy I have.”Obinwanne born dangerous boxer declares.

Of late, one young guy from Umuaka has been going viral with his videos on different digital platforms on the internet. Many who shared his videos said that he is a native of Obinwanne Umuaka Autonomous Community. After getting some clues, the Umuaka Times correspondents in Thailand went in search of him and through some contacts, the newspaper pinned him down for an interview.

The guy known as Odunna Promise Ahanna disclosed to Umuaka Times the dangers of the sport he had found love in.

Excerpts:

Good afternoon sir. We are reporters from Umuaka Times. Please tell us your name and where you were born.

Thank you very much my people. My name is Odunna Promise Ahanna, I am a native of Obinwanne Umuaka Umuaka Autonomous Community Njaba LGA Imo State.

Do you have a social media handle?

Yes I do; my handle is Ziger0111 on Tiktok.

When did you travel to Thailand?

I came here in 2022 which is exactly 4 years.

Akalites and indeed Nigerians have been watching your fights on Tiktok. How did you discover this type of boxing you are into?

Actually this fight is called Mauy Thai fight it’s very popular here in Thailand and its Thailand sport.

Why did you join such a dangerous sport?

It was one day I was just relaxing and I decided to watch the fight; then I saw how brutal it is and I decided to join.

Why did you join such a highly brutal sport?

(Laughs) I joined because I love brutal stuffs.

How long have you been in this combat sport?

I have been in this game for just 7 months.

Really?

Please don’t mind how fast I went up; is because I demolish anyone they bring for me so they promoted me by force.

What is the name of the sport?

The name of this fight is called Muay Thai in Igbo it means lets kpai.

Are you a professional or you want to go professional later?

For me, I can say I am a professional because I demolish everyone.

You seem to have enough energy to be winning always?

Yes the more I fight is the more I have energy.

How many fights have you fought?

Now I have won 15 fights already.

How many did you lose?

I lost only 2 out of 15 fights.

That is impressive indeed. Please tell us the rules of this dangerous sport.

It has only 1 rule which is; don’t hit your opponent when his two hands are on the floor of the ring.

 So what are the requirements while you are in the ring?

Requirements? Anything goes! You can use all the weapons on your body such as, elbow, kicks, knee, punches and mind you that you can kick and hit anywhere you want on your opponent.

Honestly this is scary. Are you the only Nigerian in this sport?

Yes i am the only one.

Do you hope to go into kickboxing someday?

If I get an invitation, i will definitely go because fighting is my hubby and I can’t stay without it.

Considering how dangerous this sport is, do some fighters die in the ring?

Yes of course. Many die a lot and remember, when fighting, you have just one target which is kill your opponent and walk away.

Would you advise any of your children to go into this sport?

Never in my life will I allow any of my children to be in this game until my death. (General laughter).

Let me ask you once again. Please what attracted you into this sport?

What attracted me in this sport is the elbow-drop weapon.

How? Please explain.

I saw how brutal the sport is and immediately I joined, I started removing my opponents’ dental formulas with my elbow-drop weapon.

Really?

Come to my house and I will show you a lot of teeth that belong to my opponents.

Any advice for youths who want to be like you?

Youths should think very carefully while trying to be like me biko.

When next do you have another fight?

My next fight comes on December 22.

Who is your opponent?

Not yet out before 18 I will know.
