Tim Obiwuru: The Last Don.

3 min read

(Barrister Ms Gloria Akanuo pays tribute.)

As Dr Tony Obiwuru was known for assisting people  via his spirit of academic engineering, many lives were touched and he indeed inspired thousands of people both in and outside Igboland. Many graduates of today despite their ethnic origins,  have been testifying how the great scholar positively shaped their lives towards academics. One of such individuals is  Barrister Ms Gloria Akanuo, a prominent Lagos lawyer from Uba Umuaka.

From the observations established by Umuaka Times, Barrister Akano, despite her seriously tight schedule has been fully taking part in some of the activities mapped out to bade Obiwuru, the final farewell he deserved. First was when the Old Umuaka National Union Lagos Branch  paid the Obiwuru family a condolence visit in his Lagos residence, Barrister Akano was there and she stayed till the end of the program. As if that was not enough, Akano also flew into Owerri last week in order to take part in the burial of  the man who she had deep respect for. She was present at the wakes night and in the church for the requiem Mass and more. When Umuaka Times approached her for a brief interview, she confirmed that indeed Sir Timmy O was a source of positive influence on her and she concluded by saying that nothing would be so much for Timmy. “How I wish I can do more.”

Below is the tribute written by the top Lagos lawyer.

My Tribute  to  Sir Timmy.

I find it so difficult  to write  this tribute because it  is still unbelievable   that you have gone  the way  all mortals  go.

Thank you  for all the support  you  gave  to me in University  of Lagos  when no one believed  I could amount  to anything  in life, but you decided  to help  me. I remember the  day I cried  to your office for transportation  back home after lectures and you gave me N2000 ( Two Thousand  Naira . ) It was a whole lot for transportation and to feed my children for weeks .

You and your wife encouraged me to always  bring the  children to your home for Sunday rice which  was the custom because I couldn’t afford  it then .

I will forever  remain  grateful .

Last year2020, on the occasion of your birthday, when I called you and you picked my call after several years that we stopped communicating  as a result  of cheap blackmail against  me , I promised  to come over with my kids to say thank you for your benevolence but I never knew God was already  setting you up  for a better assignment .

I  pray that Almighty God will look upon your good deeds and grant  you  eternal  rest.

Rest on in peace  Sir  Timmy.

To my beloved Sister with a heart of  diamond  and the  children, God will grant  you the fortitude  to bear this irreplaceable  loss. You shall not lack strength  and help in Jesus name Amen

Barr Ms Gloria  Ngo Akanno.
