Tinubu’s 2027 campaign posters flood Owerri.

2 min read

Barely 20 months to the 2027 presidential election in Nigeria which is still far away, faceless Nigerian supporters of Abuja strongman President Bola Tinubu have already kick started a door to door campaign to return the APC president during the 2027 presidential election to complete a second tenure. Last week when the local affairs correspondents of Umuaka Times went round the Imo State capital city of Owerri, several campaign posters of Tinubu were seen in some popular streets in Owerri and other strategic places. Although no organization’s name was attached to the posters but top voices in the state attributed the campaign to some individual members of APC.

A leap into other states across Nigeria also showed that it was not only in Imo State that the campaign posters of the Abuja strongman had emerged; Umuaka Times correspondents in Abuja confirmed that in Dutse, the capital city of Jigawa State and Asaba, the capital of Delta State were also dotted with the 2027 campaign posters.

In Jigawa State and Abuja, billboards bearing the same message were also mounted at strategic places to perhaps notify the people of the readiness of the present government to continue come 2027.

In Jigawa State the billboards Umuaka Times reporters came across displayed posters of Tinubu alongside the state Governor of the state, Malam Umar Namadi, “advocating for continuity in power.”

Meanwhile the presidency has denied being the brain behind the faceless campaign posters of Tinubu. In a press statement which was published by Punch newspaper of 14 April 2025, the presidency in a statement signed by BayoOnanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, with the title, Presidency Disclaims 2027 Campaign Billboards Nationwide, Onanuga wrote:

“We urgently call on individuals and groups funding this 2027 political campaign through the ongoing deployment of materials on billboards nationwide to cease immediately.”

As 2027 decision year for Nigeria and Nigerians continues to draw closer, many more events are expected to unfold at certain quarters and certain levels. Only time will decide for Nigerians on “who gets what, when and how”.
