Tribute to My Sweet Mother. By Barr Leo Offorji.

2 min read

Mama, I am not sad that you have finally gone to the face of God to prepare a place for all of us your children as it is inevitable that we shall leave this earth one day once God’s assignment to man is done.

I remember how you used you wit and wisdom to shepherd us your children all through the periods of starvation during the periods of civil war.

I remember how you used your grace and steadfast belief in God to teach us after the war for us to succeed in life. We must put our feet on the ground and look up to the stars by working hard in our education because you believed that everyone is destined to be somebody one day if we work hard.

I remember how you called me each day “Nna Dim” and you would always draw my ear that I should be good to mankind because  the reward for good virtues are more blessings from God. Throughout your life, you were always charming and generous to people.

I remember how you would stay up all night to ensure that visitors to our house were well looked after and you derived joy from seeing their smiling faces.

You taught me that generosity to people was a manifestation from your name ONYEWUCHIBEYA.

Today the world is celebrating your life and we your children are treasuring it. I miss your load resounding laughter because you believed that the first solution to a problem is to take a deep breath and laugh to the problem and thereafter, you start solving the problem. IT IS A BIG LESSON. This your simple approach has guided me thus far.

My teacher, indeed, I am convinced that you were a child of God because for 4 decades you battled with serious challenges of health and even when people gave up on you, you defied the realities and expectations of human existence.

You walked the talk, and your legacy will live forever.

Sleep well my special teacher. You will remain evergreen in my thoughts.

I remain your son and your “NNA DIM”

Chief Barr. Leonard Offorji
