Trouble looms as motorcycle girls emerge.
2 min readUmuaka Times has written a lot of stories about motorcycle boys and their recklessness and the several accidents they have caused in the community. After a critical analysis and investigation of the obsession, Umuaka Times established a deep evidence that there is also the madness of motorcycle girls the community has to address urgently.
From the findings by Umuaka Times, the motorcycle girls are the ones who most of the times encourage and totally empower the boys to be driving recklessly. The motorcycle boys almost all the time, carry their girlfriends on their motorcycles anytime they want to embark on their dangerous evening ride. There are indications that the girls refuse to caution the motorcycle boys. They would remain silent in total support of the reckless driving. There is evidence also suggesting that some of the girls have at different occasions asked their motorcycle boyfriends to “gbapuya egwusi.” (Gbapuya egwusi is a slang frequently used in Umuaka by the motorcycle boys and their girlfriends which means, speed up the bike.)
There is also another type of motorcycle girls. This group drives the motorcycles themselves and there is no iota of deference between them and their male counterparts in terms of over speeding and recklessness.
Umuaka Times is yet to establish any accident involving any motorcycle girl either as the offender or as a victim. People, especially women have expressed their displeasure or dissatisfaction over the reckless attitude of the girls while on the road as bike drivers etc.
To checkmate the rising wave of motorcycle accidents in the community, Umuaka Times has packaged an intervention program in the community. With the assistance of others, the program will pick 4 highly reckless motorcycle boys from each community in Umuaka, making a total number of 40. This number will be used to create the pilot program on how to police the riders in the community.
