Ugbele born Cambodian citizen brutalized by Akah Ebe Iri Security.
2 min readSerious allegations of brutality have continued to mar the activities of Akah Ebe Iri security outfit while trying to execute her duties in Umuaka Municipal Council. Last week was yet another ugly incident affecting and indicting the outfit. An Ugbele Akah born young businessman based in Cambodia by name Mr Divine Chidi Iwuji was on January 14, 2024 seriously brutalized by some officials of Akah Ebe Iri Security, AEIS, in the premises of National School Ugbele. From what Umuaka Times investigations showed, trouble started when the youthful Iwuji was leaving the venue of a traditional wedding which was held in the National School Umuaka. According to those who spoke with Umuaka Times, when Iwuji was about driving out from the event centre, he got to the exit gate of the school and discovered that it was locked; he blew the horn of his vehicle in order to draw the attention of the security officials.
A Calabar security official from AEIS who heard the horn was said to have thundered to him, “Who is that bastard?” On hearing that, Iwuji was said to have alighted from his SUV and went to ask the security official why he called him (Iwuji) a bastard. The security official was said to have stood his ground and dared the boy. As a little argument ensured, the security man was said to have intentionally hit Iwuji with his gun on his jaw. Four teeth fell down from his mouth and the he fell down and lost consciousness. The youths who watched the scene were angered by the brutality that Iwuji was melted with. They were said to have ganged up and vandalized the vehicle of Akah Ebe Iri security outfit. Iwuji was said to have regained consciousness at Sancta Maria Hospital where he was rushed to after the tragic incident.
A different version of what happened at the event centre held that Iwuji came out of his vehicle to fight and attack the security officials to the extent that he allegedly made some moves to disarm the official. While struggling with the gun, the ugly incident happened. When Umuaka Times visited the Iwuji family last week, Iwuji who could barely talk denied any attempt by him or any other person to disarm the security officials.
There were allegations making the round in town that Iwuji called cultists to come and vandalize the patrol vehicle of Aka Ebe Iri Security. Mr Chris Iwuji, an uncle to the victim, told Umuaka Times last week that Iwuji lost consciousness as he fell down in a pool of his blood after the hitting. “So at what point did he call the cultists and what for? This is a boy who just returned from overseas with his foreign wife. He is not a trouble maker by any means.”
