Umuagba lifts Umuezeala Championship Cup Donated by Ala.
2 min readThe Umuezeala football tournament tagged Umuezeala Championship Cup has come to an end as Umuagba kindred finally took the cup home. The cup which was donated by Mr Paschal Okey Onwukwe also known as Ala was hotly contested in the football pitch among the three kindreds in Umuezeala namely, Umuagba, Umuishii and Umulolo.
From the first outing, Umuagba versus Umuishii, Umuagba lost to Umuishii by one goal and then other rounds of game were played in subsequent days among the three teams and each did very well.
After her first loss to Umuishii, it appeared as if Umuagba saw it as an insult and went home to prepare very well. After her preparations, the two other subsequent encounters between Umuagba and Umuishii including the finals saw Umuishii not achieving victory at all.
On Monday, 30 December 2024, the famous Umuezeala Stadium (also known as Ama Eburuaja) was full to the brim during the final leg of the tournament. Shortly before the kick-off, Ala who donated the cup did the ceremonial kick-off and the people clapped for him and the match began. At the end of the struggle, Umuagba defeated her Umuishii brothers by 2 goals to 1.
Many people predicted that Umuagba would win the cup considering the top quality players the community parades. Umuaka Times gathered that some of the players in Umuagba belong to several football academies and clubs where they are being drilled by professional coaches.
Back in Umuishii, the boys expressed thanks to Umuagba but vowed that by next year, the cup would come back to Umuishii, the kindred of its donor.
