Akalites have complained of bad major roads in their communities which were either left undone or half-done in the last few years. The state of the roads Umuaka Times gathered has created serious disappointments on the part of the masses especially now that the rainy season is back. Local findings made by Umuaka Times showed that Amiyi Afara Road, Umuaka Amaigbo Road and Umuaka Ukwuoji Road are in seriously bad conditions to the extent that the better parts of the roads have become unmotorable. On the Umuezikoha and Isiozi parts of Umuaka Amaigbo Road, especially at Ama Ojikeya and Ama Dire respectively, it will be impossible for cars to pass the areas because the bad spots noticed in the areas are so deep with measurements indicating over 2 feet in some areas. There were expectations last month that the roads would be fixed but too bad till now, nothing was done except on the Isiozi part of the road which is said to be a community project.

Another road that poses a chief concern is Umuaka Ukwuoji Road. Almost every year, the road is patched by some volunteers and that has failed to alleviate the hard times people go through while using the road.

On Amiyi Afara Road, very close to Amiyi Akah Community Hospital, the road is terribly in bad condition and the bad spots are expected to expand as the rainy season gets messier.

Obinwanne roads are for now the most motorable roads in Umuaka. People going to Ekwe, Amandugba, Nkwo Ikpa etc usually follow the Obinwanne Amurie Road diversion to reach their destinations.

A good number of Akalites has asked what the LG authorities are doing both in Njaba and Isu LGAs. As the roads remain in bad conditions, vehicular movements are already suffering a great deal and several vehicles and economic activities in Umuaka may not go as smooth as expected. Although some have in the past described some of the roads as state roads and appealed to the Imo State Government to fix the roads. No matter whose duty it is to fix the roads, the bad news remains that the people who use these roads are not happy.
