Umuaka Charity Foundation empowers 20 Akalites.
2 min readThe first edition of the much awaited and advertised financial empowerment program on agriculture organized by Umuaka Charity Foundation was held on Thursday January 2, 2025 at the banquet hall of Sancta Maria secondary School Umuaka. The event which brought together all the people who filled the foundation’s grant application form and returned it on time was openly done at the full view of everyone. The reason for this was to make the people understand the high level of transparency the foundation employed to carry out the exercise.
Originally, it was announced that the foundation was shopping for N50 million to empower 100 youths ready to go into livestock farming etc. Sadly enough, the foundation could not get enough money to carry out the exercise. It then decided to go on and empower those the N8.5 million it was able to realize could empower.
The screening exercise employed by the foundation was said to be very tough because several applications were received and the foundation devised several appropriate means to disqualify many until the number came down to about 50.
At the end of the exercise, 2 applicants from each village in Umuaka became successful thereby bringing the number to 20 in totality.
The 20 persons who were successful would be undergoing training on their chosen careers in agriculture very soon.
According to Mazi Iwuaku Iwuchukwu who is the president and founder of Umuaka Charity Foundation, the organization had to carry out the exercise through categories. In category A, 20 persons were chosen due to limited funds, if more money comes, the number will increase in category B.
While addressing the audience during the exercise, Mr Chukwu L. Chukwukere from Uba Umuaka who was the chairman of the occasion used the opportunity and appealed for more funds from Akalites who may wish to support the empowerment program.
Umuaka Time reliably gathered that the foundation is determined to make sure that the beneficiaries of the grant which will be N500,000 each will make good use of the fund as agreed. On this determination, several measures have been put in place in order to ensure that embezzlement does not occur.
