Umuaka Times marks 4th anniversary.

Last week Umuaka Times Communications Limited, publishers of Umuaka Times newspapers and the owners of Umuaka Times Institute UTI, the powerful whatsapp group of the newspaper marked her 4 years of unstoppable and positively inestimable rural impact journalism. When the newspaper announced that it was marking her fourth anniversary last week, several Akalites both in and outside Nigeria and other high profile individuals from other parts of the country started to send in their congratulatory messages to rejoice with the newspaper which was founded in 2019 by an iconoclastic and a Marxist Akalite named Darlington Ojy Onwukwe.
From indications and against all odds, Onwukwe has been able to sustain the flow of the newspaper each week since its inception. No week has ever passed that the newspaper failed to publish new stories. On the other hand, the newspaper has successfully made a remarkable inroad into the minds of Akalites and Nigerians who look out for the publication every Sunday morning. The success story of Umuaka Times is perhaps connected to her corporate social responsibility activities. On several occasions, the newspaper has saved some Akalites from the icy hands of death through several calls it has made to her readers to contribute money to save some sick people. In total, the newspaper has been able to raise over 15 million Naira for various causes in the community through the contributions of public spirited individual Akalites and others.
As Umuaka Times’ popularity continues to rise from glory to glory, the newspaper has continued to make highly impressive impacts on the pages of the internet. As at last week, the newspaper has recorded 2069 visitors on her website just for the month of August alone. 68,775 visitors just for the year 2023 and a total visit of 222061 by her readers across the globe. As if the figures were not enough, there is also a total number of 954,186 hits so far recorded.
It will be important to note here that the above quoted figures do not represent figures from 2019 to 2021 when the Umuaka Times website had some serious issues and lost several vital records.
Left for Onwukwe alone, the success story of Umuaka Times would end up as a big disaster without the inclusiveness of some Akalites who have been offering their material, spiritual, financial and academic supports. Such individuals include, royal fathers, clergymen, businessmen and women, legal practitioners, students, authors, sportsmen and women and some others in diaspora too numerous to mention.
