2 min read

On Sunday 31, 2023, which was the last day of the year, the union of Umuaka women based in the United States of America embarked on a massive empowerment program in Umuaka. The empowerment program which was held inside the CWO Hall at St Mary’s Catholic Church Umuaka attracted several widows including those that were not invited for the program. By 14 minutes after 5 pm on the eventful day, the women and their hosts started the event with a service of songs and praises. The women were all in their best mood as they sang and danced as the session was going on.

At the end of the session, Dr ijeoma Anyaibe who was anchoring the event called for an opening prayer. One agile and slim woman who entertained everybody with her dancing steps came out and said the opening prayers and the event then fully kicked off. Presentation of kola nuts then followed.

By 1:23 pm, the MC started to announce the names of the officials of the group and each person she called stood up from the high table and greeted the invitee widows. The first on the list of names she had was Mrs Princess Chichi Ojinnaka who is the leader of the group.

After the introduction, Mrs Princess Ojinnaka was called to give her opening speech. Before she closed her remarks, she announced to the women that each of them would leave the venue with the sum of N50,000. She advised them to accept the money with their open minds and pray over it.

After the announcement by the leader of the American women group, it was discovered that some women whose names were not in the master list brought from the United States had come to join as recipients. Deep confusion was about to set in and with her leadership acumen, Princess Ojinnaka announced that any woman among the audience who had come on her own was not entitled to anything. “For you to receive the N50,000, you must have been recommended by one of the Umuaka women in the United States”, she told the women.

In few minutes time, the disbursement started. From the master list the “American” women had, names were called serially and each of the women from the master list got her own N50,000.

Some women could not hold back their tears of joy and memories of their late husbands as they were stepping out of the CWO call totally fulfilled.
