Umuisii women receive 24 bags of rice from the Dikes.

2 min read

On Thursday March 28 2024, Umuisii women in Umuezeala Uba Umuaka were engulfed with unlimited joy. The reason for the joy was because their son and husband Mr Vin Dike and his wife Jacinta celebrated Easter for them in a very special way. A day before the day, Mr Alabekee Ebeleukwu was given a mandate to go round and inform every Umuisii woman resident in the village to come at the country home of Chief Bob Dike for the sharing of 24 bags of rice donated for them by the Dikes.

As early as 9 am the following day which the day mapped out for sharing of the bags of rice, some youths of the community and some women came for the inspection and confirmation of the number of bags of rice. After the confirmation, the sharing formula began immediately.

By 11 am, the women started to come one after the other. When the number of the women grew up, they were told why they were invited and a short prayer was conducted before the sharing formally began. The prayer point was simple: God please bless the hands that brought these bags of rice to us in Jesus name.

After the prayers, the master list which was compiled by some youths of the community was presented and the sharing formula was strictly based on the list.

By the time all the names on the list had received theirs, some women raised some concerns over some names that were omitted. Their concerns were taken into consideration and each woman resident in the village got her own share of the rice.

Some yet to marry umuada Umuisii whose mothers had died over the years also got their own portions because they were the ones running their mothers’ kitchens. Those who also received were Umuisii divorcees resident in the village as well as Umuagba and Umulolo women living in Umuisii.

At the end of the sharing exercise, most of the women kept thanking Mr and Mrs Vin Dike for their kind gesture towards them. A particular woman asked no one in particular, “what did we do for this couple that makes them to always remember us? May God always continue to bless them.”
