It can be recalled that Unique-85, according to Umuaka Times reports some weeks back, had embarked on some educational programs to revive the falling standard of education in the state. A statewide debate contest is among some of the programs launched by the organization to save education in the state.
Umuaka Times local affairs correspondents who witnessed the event confirmed that several dignitaries including the state Commissioner for Education Professor Johncliff C. Nwadike who was represented by Pastor Okereke M.I.C. were present at the event. Others include the Principal of Government Collage Owerri, a former principal of High School Umuaka, Mr G.F. Oti and his wife, Reverend Father Charles Maduabuchi Anagwo, the substantive Principal of Saint Saviour’s Secondary School Amiyi Akah, Lady Chioma Njoku of Government College Owerri, Mrs Obiechi Chinyeaka from Anara Community Secondary School and a host of others.
During the presentation of their speeches, Mr. Oti G.F. extoled the virtues of High School Umuaka, the alma matter of Unique-85 and thanked them for giving back to the society that groomed them. He encouraged them to keep the flag flying by repeating the debate project yearly. He expressed happiness that what he taught the students when he was the principal of High School Umuaka was not a waste.
The Imo Commissioner for Education Professor Johncliff C. Nwadike while speaking through his representative thanked the schools that took part in the debate contest and disclosed to the gathering, the preparedness of the government to work with like-minded groups to uplift the standard of education in the state.
A major point which was made by all those who were present during the ceremony was an appeal to Unique-85 members to present such programs yearly within the state for others to emulate.
