High profile Umuezikoha Uba born Chief and barrister at law, Ugo Johnson Anyiam on Tuesday April 9, 2024 received his prestigious Umuaka Times Merit Award for 2022. The award was given to Chief Anyiam in recognition of his contributions towards the development of Umuaka community especially in the programs by Akah Aborigines, the umbrella body of Umuaka men and women living in South Africa.

By the time the local affairs correspondents of Umuaka Times arrived at the palatial country home of Chief Anyiam who is the principal consultant, Anyiam Attorneys Incorporated Johannesburg South Africa, the reporters noticed a heavy presence of security details and some family members who were already seated. There were also two groups exclusively invited for the occasion; Umuezikoha Council of Chiefs and Unique ’85, a group of old boys from High School Umuaka who graduated in 1985 who came to celebrate with him.

Few minutes after the arrival of the reporters, Chief Anyiam presented his opening speech to the Umuezikoha Council of Chiefs. According to him, he had no specific reason for inviting them except that he has not been always at home and he was always having the hunger to be with them. He stated further that there was no way he could continue to wait for a meeting day because he may as well not be available then. He used the opportunity to thank them for all the meaningful strides and energy the group had put in place over the years.

After his speech, several dignitaries who were present during the ceremony took time to thank him for remembering his roots and creating the opportunity to spend a high quality time with his kinsmen and the chiefs of the land.

Chief Anyiam also made a similar speech while addressing the Unique ’85 group whom he told that he specifically invited them to witness the award presentation from Umuaka Times.

Shortly after the speech, the Umuaka Times team called Hon. Obinna Duruji and handed the award over to him to make a brief speech. After his speech, he handed the award to the chairman Umuezikoha Council of Chiefs in the person of Chief Raphael Duruji to present the award to Chief Anyiam.

After a brief speech by the award presenter Chief Raphael Duruji, he prayed and handed the award over to Chief Johnson Anyiam in the presence of Umuezikoha Council of Chiefs and Unique ’85 and charged him to enter into the world and explore.

While addressing the members of Unique ’85, Chief Anyiam thanked Umuaka Times and every other person who came for the event from the bottom of his heart for making the event a memorable one. In 2022, Chief Johnson Anyiam won the Diasporan Philanthropist of the Year Award from Umuaka Times.
