Mr Chidi Samuel Iwuoha, the chairman of Umuaka Ebeiri Oghu Committee Lagos, spoke with Umuaka Times correspondents last week on the preparations so far made for the big event.

Excerpts:
Sir, can you tell us briefly why you people are organizing the 2025 Oghu Lagos despite the economic hardship in town.
As the chairman of Umuaka Ebeiri Oghu Committee, I want to let you know that it a culture of peace and love. It is to bring our people together here in Lagos. It reminds us of our roots and makes us have the feeling of oneness among our people.
Any other reason sir?
We also use it to pursue membership drive among our people because it is not nice that some of our people here in Lagos are not with us in our general union.
But each community in Umuaka is now autonomous are you aware of that?
That is what we are saying. Autonomous community creations are not to divide us but to develop us. That was why we moved on to convince some communities to come together once again. We are happy because we can now play politics and still remain as brothers and sisters of Akahland.
Umuaka Times is aware that you were the chairman of the same Oghu Organizing Committee in 2024, how come you are still the chairman in 2025?
That is a good question my brother. According to popular opinions, analysis and observations, Akalites in Lagos said that the 2024 Oghu Lagos was the best so far. Remember many top personalities from the East attended the event and that was why I was called again to anchor this year’s event.
Are there any special things in this year’s event?
Yes indeed. Quite a lot. We will bring some special dancers from Awo Omama. You know they have good dancers and it was from Awo that we took our oghu from. We also want to bring other dancers from Umuaka as well.
Any other person, like abu oghu vocalist?
The Uba Umuaka born great abu oghu vocalist known as Alili Nkwu will be live during the event. He will also come from the East.
Bringing all these people to Lagos will not be easy. Don’t you think there will be logistics problems?
Good question; we have taken care of that already. We will see to all the demands of their coming and going.
Any other benefit?
The oghu dancers will be adequately compensated.
So what do we expect on that day?
Expect to see an oghu dance better than the one you saw in 2024 and try to also come with your family and friends.
