An explanation has been offered on why the authorities of Njaba LGA embarked on defacing of billboards in Umuaka about 2 weeks ago. Last week, Hon ChibuikeDuruoha had a brief interview with Umuaka Times on why the billboards were defaced. According to the youth leader who happens to be a special assistant to the Executive Chairman NjabaLGA, the Njaba local council made social media and radio announcements and appealed to the owners of the billboards and sign posts to secure their relevant approvals and papers in order to retain the billboards. The appeal as Duruoha confirmed to Umuaka Times had been made time without number but the billboard owners felt that it was business as usual and did nothing.
A recorded announcement which was made via one of the radio stations in the state was also sent to Umuaka Times by Hon Duruoha which warned that after a period of 7 days, the billboards would be defaced if nothing was done by their owners.
After the expiration of the 7 day grace given to the billboard owners, the Njaba Local Government had to move in and carry out the exercise and defaced the billboards.Local reporters asked Hon Duruoha to establish what really happened if the exercise was solely an Umuaka affair or not, he disclosed that it was not only in Umuaka that the exercise took place; “The exercise affected the entire Njaba LGA.”
Offering more explanations, Duruoha assured Njaba people that when the billboard owners comply with the requirements, the “ban” would be lifted and they will be free to erect new billboards.
