The founder and Executive Director of Lolo Mary Ogowure Ahanotu Foundation, Mr Osy Emmanuel Ahanotu, a US based engineer and philanthropist has explained why he went into social works and why he brought a scholarship program to his home town, Amiyi Akah in Njaba LGA Imo State Nigeria. In an interview Umuaka Times had with the philanthropist in his country home recently, the engineer admitted that it was because of the high level of hardship in the country today and he also has volunteered to help in training some of the children of his community in their academic careers. In details, he explained what led him into charity works, the spirit and motivation behind what he has done and continues to do in the community.

While speaking with Umuaka Times correspondent who paid him a visit, Ahanotu disclosed that the act of charity is an inborn act which he learnt from his late father, Chief Luke Ahanotu.

“Dad was a philanthropist and he impacted a lot of people positively”, he confirmed to Umuaka Times. “You know after the death of my mother in 2021, I realized that there was a lot of works to be done and that the only way I can do these works is through an NGO. I then established an NGO which I called Lolo African Children’s Foundation and named it after my late mum Lolo Mary Ogowure Ahanotu.”

The NGO, from the fillers Umuaka Times secured from Ahanotu, is based in the United States with her tax-exempt status. Since its establishment, the foundation has been involved with several programs in many African countries.

The website of the foundation according to the founder is www.Africachildren.org and the organization also partners with several other foundations in the United States and beyond, especially faith based organizations, orphanages, the general public and other institutions.

In early January 2024, Mr Ahanotu decided to bring the programs of the foundation to his home town of Amiyi-Akah to begin a grassroots program to test run a scholarship program. In the test run program, 14 communities in Amiyi would provide 3 children from each community totaling 42. Each of the children would secure a scholarship program presented in different categories.

Umuaka Times also gathered that the program will get across several communities in Imo State before making it a national program.
