Amiyi Akah born US based pharmacist, businessman and chieftain of APC Dr Perry Uche Ekwunazu (Odogwu Njaba) has exclusively disclosed to Umuaka Times why he sponsored the 2024 edition of the football tournament tagged Amiyi Akah Unity Cup. Speaking during the finals of the tournament on Sunday 12 January 2025 at Amiyi Akah Township Stadium located at the premises of Town School Amiyi, the Odogwu Njaba hinted that the tournament has been an existing competition over the years. “I was just called to sponsor the 2024 edition.”
Stating further, he disclosed that he would also sponsor the 2025 edition of the tournament with a promise that the preparations and execution of activities during the tournament would be better than what was obtained in 2024.
On those who tried to disrupt the football match through violence and football hooliganism at the finals of the game which was held between Dioraibe FC and Duruokpokowa FC, Dr Ekwunazu vowed that Amiyi Akah Football Association and Amiyi Akah Autonomous Community would deal ruthlessly with anybody who tries to promote football hooliganism during such tournaments.
Umuaka Times later obtained reports that the boys who tried to cause commotion during the match were summoned in the country home of Dr Ekwunazu where strict warnings were issued to them and their families.
While concluding his speech, Dr Ekwunazu congratulated all the local football clubs that took part in the tournament. He assured them of continued sponsorship and appealed to them to be of good behaviour so as to harvest the benefits the tournament will offer them in years to come.
