2023: Peter Obi gathers unlimited momentum.

3 min read

The emergence of Peter Obi as the presidential candidate of Labour Party has shown some signs of redefining the terrain of Nigerian politics and the struggle for power. Peter Obi whose campaign mantra is to delete Nigeria from a consumption country list and elevate it to a production country has been making waves across the country especially among the Nigerian youths and the elderly as well. Students, labour unions, human rights advocacy groups and many more have all identified with Obi in his bid to become the next president of Nigeria.

From Umuaka Times investigations, there are not less than 11 support groups in and outside Nigeria that are busy working out political possibilities for Obi. All the groups are led by an umbrella body known as The Peter Obi 2023 Support Group. It is this group that oversees the activities of other groups working for the former Anambra State governor.

Following the findings established by Umuaka Times, the Peter Obi groups are made up of many professional and non-professional bodies as their members. The groups are Peter Obi Support Network, Like Minds for Peter Obi, Nigeria Needs Peter Obi, TakeBackNaija, Women for Peter Obi, Associates of Peter Obi, Peter Obi FC, Peter Obi Movement for President, Peter Obi Candidacy Movement, Peter Obi Ambassadors, TeamOHO and many others. There are also other groups that operate from local government levels across Nigeria. It was confirmed last week by Umuaka Times that of all the groups in the name of Peter Obi, nobody gave anybody money or any form of inducement to organize such groups. “They were all formed by patriotic Nigerians who want to see positive change in the governance of the country,” a source told Umuaka Times.

Last week, a report appeared on the internet about a certain man from Gombe State who donated his house for Obi in appreciation and support for his candidacy. Campaign is yet to begin but resilient Nigerian youths have already covered the 36 states of the federation in support of Obi. Already, a collation of Peter Obi support groups had organized a show tagged One Million March for Obi in the 36 states.

A Nigerian businessman known as Gaius Chibueze recently donated N10 million as a mobilization for logistics in support of Obi. While making the presentation, the businessman said: “To show my support and demonstrate my conviction that Nigeria needs a leader at this point, that is tested and trusted, free from the high level of corruption in our society and that won’t waste scarce resources, I am making a small donation of 10 million Naira to the Peter Obi Campaign.”

According to Guardian newspaper, Mr Seun Onigbide, who is one of the founders and CEO of BudgIT, a Nigerian advocacy group, has advocated to Nigerians to raise ₦10 billion through crowd funding for the Peter Obi presidential bid. He described a Go Fund Me program for Obi as a good starter for the project. In addition to this, the Peter Obi Support Network has promised that its 6 million members would raise N6 billion for his campaign expenses.

Millions of Nigerian youths across the country have continued to register for their PVCs in support of Obi and many more are contributing and volunteering in diverse ways. Recently, Obi announced that his campaign was no longer under his control but in the firm control of Nigerian youths. One commentator on national issues described the entire development as the Obi Tsunami.

From 1960 till date, Umuaka Times can authoritatively state that there has never been any politician whom the people of Nigeria have shown so much love, not even the late Gani Fawehinmi. Umuaka Times is also donating a free advert space for Obi. As weeks roll into months, many more positive developments will be recorded in favour of Obi as many more groups and individuals have resolved to change the country through Peter Obi-ism.
