82 Set of High School Umuaka ends 2022 in grand style.

3 min read

A group of former students of the famous High School Umuaka who graduated in 1982, on 3rd January 2023 held its annual end of the year party with funfair. The event which took place at the country home of its president Mr Vice Onyemepu, a seasoned engineer attracted a lot of the former students of the great institution who came around with their families and friends. The Great 82 Set during the event took a critical look on the challenges before it and discussed how to face them one after the other.

First, the event which kicked off by some minutes to one pm was launched by a powerful opening prayer said by Venable Godwin Eme, a member of the Great 82 Set and a Jerusalem Pilgrim (JP). After the prayers, the erstwhile president of the organization Vice Onyemepu, an engineer, presented his opening remarks and welcome address as well.

Onyemepu who was the host for the big event while presenting his address, thanked all the members of the group for their resilience in getting across to others and how they have moved on together since the inception of the post secondary school group. He told the audience that the year 2022 was remarkable to each one them because it was the year that completed 40 years after they all left High School Umuaka. Onyemepu did not fail to acknowledge some of the members of the group who have passed to the world beyond. He encouraged those alive to be steadfast and always help to build the group and the society at large.

The greatest point of the welcome address presented by Onyemepu was the announcement that the group through some of its economically stable members, mapped out the sum of N2million to uplift the economically weak members. It was announced that HRM, Eze Justin Ezeala of Obinwanne Autonomous Community who is a member of the group and conspicuously absent donated N1 million to boast the financial palliative. The group empowered three of its members with the grant.

The beneficiaries who received the grants came out and made some speeches and the next item which was the presentation of a specially designed cake was introduced. After the introduction of the cake which was donated by the president himself, some members were called upon to come and join the president and other officials for the cutting of the cake.

The event took a fresh dimension when the master of the ceremony Mr Chris Iwuji who also is a member of the group called on Professor Njoku to present a paper on the need for its “lost” members to look for them and join.

Umuaka Times observed that throughout the duration of the event, one former student known as “7 Cartons of Trouble” was busy doing what he knows how to do best, which is just “making trouble”.

“7 Cartons of Trouble” was busy running and dancing around the premises and entertaining guests who attended the event. He perhaps almost stole the show with his trouble infested character.

The get-together event by the Great 82 Set of HSU was indeed an incredible reunion of members and their families. What a rewarding experience!
