In a heartwarming display of generosity, Professor EmekaDuruigbo, an UbaUmuaka born scholar and an expert on Energy and Business Law, has taken on the 2025 NECO registration costs for all final-year students at High School Umuaka in UbaUmuaka. The professor who teaches Corporate Law, Oil and Gas Law, and International Law at Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas, shared the good news with the American correspondents of Umuaka Times last week in a press statement he issued in view of the noble donation.

Initially, Professor Duruigbo had planned to cover both WAEC and NECO fees of the entire students, but after consulting with the school’s principal, Mrs. OluchiAmaechi, he learned that WAEC exams were already underway. Nevertheless, he decided to proceed with sponsoring the NECO registration costs.

In a landmark message he sent to Umuaka Times, Professor Duruigbo encouraged the students to stay focused on their studies and pursue their passions, emphasizing the importance of contributing positively to the society at large through anything that would bring out the best in them. He concluded by wishing them success in their examinations.

According to Umuaka Times findings, the remarkable act of kindness by the Duruigbosmarks the first time in Umuaka from 1960 till date where an individual has covered WAEC or NECO registration costs for an entire secondary school in Umuaka. Umuaka Times extends its gratitude to Professor Duruigbo and his family for this extraordinary gesture.

The donation Umuaka Times gathered was made possible by the Emeka and Cherish Duruigbo Foundation, a humanitarian body incorporated in the State of Texas to, among other things, pursue and accomplish non-profit, religious, charitable and educational objectives both within and outside the United States.

Meanwhile when Umuaka Times contacted the principal of High School UmuakaMrsOluchiAmaechi, she confirmed the donation and further disclosed that the school has begun the registration process. According to her, she has put every spanner in the works to ensure that the school does not suffer late registration. She thanked the donors of the money on behalf of the staff and students of High School Umuaka. She further prayed to God to continue to promote and protect Professor EmekaDuruigbo and his Wife Mrs Cherish Duruigbo.

As the news of the kindness from the Duruigbo couple went to town last week, an UmuezealaUba chieftaincy title holder, High Chief Eddy Ikwubuo (AgunechembaNjaba) on hearing the news of the Duruigbo kind gesture, extolled the virtues of the donors in no small way. “You see, Barrister Duruigbo is a real son of the soil who was born and bred here locally. He read at Hilltop Primary School and High School Umuaka (Isiozi). For him to embark on this project, he has demonstrated to us all that there is a need for us to invest in human developmental strides in all its ramifications. May God bless them.”
