Abia State approves Nnaemeka Akanazu’s book for use in secondary schools.
The euphoria that greeted the atmosphere in Umuaka last week especially in Amiyi Akah and in the diaspora following the approval and endorsement of Soul and Spirit Poetry of the Heart Plus More, by the Abia State Ministry of Education for secondary schools was still noticeable at press time last week when Umuaka Times came across the good news. Umuaka Times correspondents in Germany were one of the people to first receive the news concerning the approval of the book back in Nigeria.
The author of the book, Mr Joe-Blaise Nnaemeka Akanazu, an Amiyi Akah born Akalite who is a German based international development expert and a sound intellectual in a message he sent to Umuaka Times last week through the newspaper’s correspondents in Germany, disclosed that it was a dream come true for him. In his words, the author wrote: “You know, I remember the autobiography of the late Dr. Nelson Mandela is titled Long Walk to Freedom, the approval of Soul and Spirit for secondary schools in Abia State was for me another long walk to freedom.”
While thanking God for the wisdom of the approval board, Mr Akanazu hinted that the book was approved for use in junior secondary schools in both public and private schools in the entire Abia State. The approval will cover the academic years in the state spanning from 2025 to 2028. Umuaka Times was reliably informed that other books approved alongside Soul and Spirit include Gold in Unlikely Places by Dr. Chukwuemeka N. Oluoha and In My Oasis by Nma Mba.
While thanking the Abia State Government, Mr Akanazu also used the opportunity and thanked Chief Louis Duru, a one-time commissioner in Imo State and his (Akanazu’) secretary Esther Chinatu Nnadi for their tireless roles and resilience during the “long walk”.

It can be recalled that Soul and Spirit Poetry of the Heart Plus More which was published by Easy Brain College Publishers was unveiled on Wednesday 8 January 2025 at the Jubilee Hall of Asumpta Cathedral Owerri under the chairmanship of a US based businessman and pharmacist, Dr Perry Ekwunazu. An Owerri based literary critic and famous painter, Mazi Paddy Obinna was the reviewer of the book.
Umuaka Times sources confirmed that the book is being used across several secondary schools in the South East and South South during their morning devotions.
