On Saturday, August 15, 2026, the OgbakoUmunwanyi Igbo Worldwide held its 2026 Annual August Meeting at the Main Hall of the University of Nigeria,(UNEC) Enugu Campus, the event was graced by high profile Igbomen and women of substance who came from around the world. In this exclusive interview, the founder and the maiden president of the Enugu chapter of the women’s body, Dr Jane Onyinye Obioha, a famous Eziada, Lolo and barrister at law spoke with Umuaka Times correspondents in Enugu on why they founded the organization.

Good morning madam. May we meet you?
(Smiles), My name is Dr. BarristerMrs. Obioha Onyinye Jane.
Do you run a law firm in Enugu?
Yes, I am in a law firm in Enugu and I also teach in ahigh institution.
Last week, you were elected or appointed as the maiden chair of OgbakoUmunwanyi Igbo Worldwide Enugu chapter, can you tell us a little about the organization. Why was the body established?
Yes, I was appointed as the President of OgbakoUmunwannyi Igbo Worldwide Enugu State Chapter. The association is an international non-governmental organization which comprises all the 5 states in the South East plus Rivers State.
Are there other states the organization maintains presence in Nigeria?
The organization has its presence in Lagos State and FCT.
Tell us the main objectives of the group.
It’s main objective is to empower widows, vulnerable persons and the needy. It sensitizes women on their roles in the family as the home makers. This is done through various activities in the year.
So, what will be your role at the Enugu chapter?
As the one who pilots the affairs in Enugu, my role is to carry out the objectives of the association in Enugu State.

How old is the central body and who is the president-general?
The central body is 5 years old and the founder is High Chief Ifeoma Okpara Nwadike from Imo State but she resides in the USA.
Is the organization only for married women?
No.The organization is made up of both married and single ladies.
For those who may like to join, what are the entry requirements?
For one to be eligible, the person must be a woman who is ready to sacrifice and work for the organization. The entry doesn’t require anything rather than sacrifice.

So far what has the organization achieved and who are the founders?
The organization has achieved a lot, an example is the empowerment of widows and helping the needy program within our environment, the organization has embarked on.
You had your inauguration and award presentation ceremonies last week, who are the people and corporate bodies you would like to appreciate?
I wish to appreciate all the guests that graced the occasion especially the African Women’s Lawyers Association (AWLA), ProfessorOrabueze, Professor Paschal Okolie, High Chief Professor K. C. Episteme Obioha, Prof. Val Ugwu, HRM V. C.Onah, Mr. Ubasonye Ikechukwu, the Iyom Association and all the dignitaries and everyone that were present, may God bless them all.
