Saturday December 20 2025 will be like no other day in Umuaka. On this day, a big event took place at the premises of St Mary’s Catholic Church Umuaka; an anonymous donor distributed the sum of N5million to 200 indigent widows in Umuaka. Each autonomous community in Umuaka provided 20 widows and each of them received the sum of N25,000.

The fund which was sent to Umuaka Times for proper disbursement through an intermediary almost ran into troubled waters because of scarcity of funds from commercial banks. The donor had warned through the intermediary that he wanted the money shared directly to the beneficiaries in cash because he wanted the women to get the money themselves. This request sounded easy at the initial time but as time went by, Umuaka Times found out that the banks in Owerri were only paying N20,000 cash. This was a big impediment but as things would happen, Umuaka Times was able to gather the whole money in cash and the distribution was successfully made.

From what the intermediary disclosed to Umuaka Times, the donor provided the fund in honour and memory of the late Mrs Stella Ogoma Udeagwu who was said to have inspired and guided the poor donor some decades ago. The donor had always had the intention to show appreciation to the woman who made him or her what he is today but sadly, the woman passed on when the anonymous donor was still struggling.

The intermediary told Umuaka Times that the donor decided to show love to 200 widows of Umuaka extraction as a moral obligation he owed to the late Mrs Stella Udeagwu.

The women who were able to attend the event were all given the cash gift and those who were very sick or old also received theirs through their representatives. Even those who could not make it or send some representatives eventually received their some days after. During the event, the widows prayed and sang songs and celebrated by thanking God for coming to their financial rescue at this critical December period.
