Beneficiaries celebrate free medical outreach by Orlu United Medical Center.

The free medical outreach held at the premises of Orlu United Medical Center Umuowa on January 10 2026 has been described as highly amazing and successful. The one day event powered by the owners of Merit College Umuowa, Chief Nkemdirim Ugbaja and his wife Dr Chika Ugbaja was aimed at helping the poor in Njaba and Isu LGAs access free medical care. From what Umuaka Times gathered, the event featured segments like health education and awareness which was presented by a high profile doctor and guardian councilor, Professor Obioha Kingsley Chukwu Episteme. Free laboratory tests, vital signs monitoring, eye examinations and vision checks, free medical consultations with specialists, free medications and free surgeries.

A document Umuaka Times obtained from Dr Chika Ugbaja showed that at the end of the one day program, a total of 446 patients were seen by the medical team during the outreach. Five successful surgeries were also carried out during the outreach.

The number of the medical team that attended to the patients includes 9 physicians, 2 surgeons, 5 optometrists, 21 nurses, 10 volunteers, 2 priests and others who helped in the logistics and more during the program.
Speaking with Chief Louis Duru after the event, Professor Obioha Kingsley Chukwu Episteme described the preparation, the execution and the responses to the outreach as the highest he has seen so far as a medical doctor. The Professor disclosed that the medical outreach helped them to dictate some serious problems with some of the patients who could not have lasted more than 48 hours if they did not attend the medical outreach. He hailed the Ugboaja couple for organizing the outreach and thanked those who attended.

As at last week, vote of thanks and commendations continued to pour in for the organizers of the program. Chief and Lolo Nkemdirim Ugbaja who made the program possible also thanked all the medical and non-medical workers who took part both directly and indirectly during the program. The couple expressed their gratitude for all the people who came to access medical care during the program and equally thanked the staff and the management of Orlu United Medical Center Umuowa for their cooperation. A highly dependable source confirmed to Umuaka Times that the projected costs for the outreach including drugs, reading glasses, stipends, food, media, entertainment and other logistics was put at 10.5 million Naira.
