Akalites living both at home and abroad have expressed deep disappointments and concerns over the dilapidated state of Umuaka Ukwu Orji Road especially the A-Line axis of the road. Last week, Mr Chigozie Dike, an Ibele born youth activist and a stakeholder in Umuaka last week raised the alarm on the deplorable state of the road. Several Akalites who have been watching and observing the bad state of the road used the opportunity to call on the house member representing Njaba LGA at the Imo State House of Assembly Hon Ozioma Worship to do something urgently on the state of the road.

It can be recalled that sometime last year, it was rumoured that the contract for the reconstruction of the road from Umuaka to Ukwu Orji had been given by the state government. When Akalites had the rumour, they expressed happiness over the “contract” but it is still a big surprise that till date, nothing tangible has been done on the road.
Some Akalites who lamented over the bad state of the road last week complained of increased transportation costs, delays and damage to goods, ultimately affecting prices and availability of services as a result of the bad road.
The bad state of the road has also led to discouraging traders and visitors, leading to lower sales and revenue in Umuaka.
Another problem is the overuse and damage to vehicles caused by the road. Motorists are indeed worried.
Umuaka Times gathered that the Imo State Government has indeed awarded some road contracts in the state and works have begun on such roads. The roads include;
Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia Road: Construction work has started on this road, with the state government addressing concerns about compensation for affected residents.
Orlu-Akaokwa-Uga Road: This federal road is also under construction, aiming to improve connectivity and boost economic activity in the state.
Internal Road 3 Imo Housing Estate: Tochil Engineering Construction Ltd was awarded the contract to reconstruct this road, which had become unmotorable.
Owerri-Orlu Road and Owerri-Okigwe Road: Julius Berger Nigerian Plc signed an MoU with the Imo State Government to construct these roads, linking the three senatorial districts in the state.
Naze-Ulakwo-Okpala-Owerrenta Road: ₦6.8 billion was allocated for its construction and rehabilitation in the 2025 budget.
Mgbe-Akokwa-Uga Road: Craneburg Construction Company is handling this project, with ecological considerations being addressed.
Assumpta Flyover: This project has been completed and commissioned in Owerri. Njaba people are indeed on the lookout to having a properly reconstructed Umuaka Ukwu Orji Road.
