Isiozi Akah-born business mogul and billionaire philanthropist, Mr Kentus Okwudiri Nwachukwu, has disclosed that he has spent more than ₦1.3 billion on road construction and rehabilitation projects in his community, with another ₦240 million invested in street lighting in the same community. Nwachukwu made the disclosure during an exclusive telephone interview with Umuaka Times correspondents last week, providing an insight into the enormous financial commitment behind the ongoing transformation of Isiozi Akah.

It will be recalled that early in 2026, the philanthropist embarked on an ambitious community development initiative involving the grading, construction and tarring of roads across Isiozi Akah, alongside the installation of streetlights to improve visibility and enhance security activities. Speaking to Umuaka Times, Nwachukwu confirmed that the road projects had already gulped more than ₦1.3 billion, adding that expenditure was still increasing as work continued on the various roads. The disclosure has further highlighted the scale of the intervention, which is expected to improve movement within the community, ease transportation and enhance the general appearance of Isiozi Akah in the entire Njaba LGA of Imo State.

Beyond the road construction projects, Nwachukwu disclosed that he had spent approximately ₦240 million on installing streetlights throughout Isiozi Akah. The lighting initiative is expected to improve night time visibility, make movement easier for residents and visitors, and contribute to a more secure environment for businesses and households. Findings by Umuaka Times indicate that both the road and street lighting projects remain ongoing. Consequently, the total expenditure is expected to increase before the entire program is completed.

For a community where infrastructure development has remained a major concern, the scale of the ongoing projects represents a significant private investment in local development. Residents are expected to benefit from improved road access, better connectivity between streets and a more attractive environment as the projects progress. Umuaka Times further gathered that the road construction and street lighting initiatives are only part of Nwachukwu’s ongoing philanthropic activities in Isiozi Akah. The businessman is also constructing a multipurpose hall at the popular St Patrick’s Catholic Church in the community, a project estimated to cost more than ₦100 million.

According to information obtained by Umuaka Times, the installation of windows and doors, alongside tiling works, has already cost Nwachukwu more than ₦22 million, with additional expenses expected as construction continues. The multipurpose hall is expected to provide additional space for church activities, meetings and other community-related functions when completed. The range of projects being undertaken by the philanthropist has attracted attention among residents and other Akalites who have been following developments in Isiozi Akah. Several residents and observers of the ongoing projects have expressed appreciation for Nwachukwu’s financial commitment to the development of his community. Some have offered prayers for him, while others appealed to Umuaka Times to convey their gratitude for what they described as a remarkable contribution to community development. Their reactions reflect the expectations of residents who hope that the ongoing infrastructure projects will improve daily life, support local economic activities and give Isiozi Akah a more modern appearance. UmuakaTimes observes that private investment in roads, street lighting and public facilities can make a significant contribution to community development, particularly when such projects address the everyday needs of residents.

Despite his substantial expenditure on infrastructure and other charitable projects, Umuaka Times gathered that Nwachukwu is expected to make his customary ₦10 million donation to the Ignatius Echefu Nwachukwu Education Foundationon January 1, 2027. The foundation was established in memory of his late elder brother, Ignatius Echefu Nwachukwu, and reflects the philanthropist’s commitment to supporting education and creating opportunities for younger generations. The anticipated donation would further extend his philanthropic activities beyond physical infrastructure to educational support for students.

As the new year approaches, attention will therefore remain on both the completion of the community projects and the foundation’s planned annual donation. With Christmas and New Year celebrations approaching, expectations are rising among residents and visitors that the ongoing road and street lighting projects will give IsioziAkah a noticeably different appearance during the festive season.Improved roads and illuminated streets could enhance movement, social activities and the general atmosphere of the community, particularly as indigenes return home for the holidays. Some residents have expressed optimism that the combination of tarred roads, streetlights and other development projects could give parts of IsioziAkah an appearance reminiscent of a small London during the festive period.

However, the extent of the transformation will depend on the progress and completion of the ongoing works. For now, the projects have placed Kentus Okwudiri Nwachukwu at the centre of a major community development effort in Isiozi Akah, with residents looking forward to the eventual completion of the works and the benefits they may bring to the community.Umuaka Times will continue to monitor the projects and report further developments as they unfold. Some people assume that the projects are NDDC sponsored but Nwachukwu dismissed the claim and confirmed to Umuaka Times, that he is the one totally bankrolling the entire projects from his personal fortunes.
