Akalite, firebrand activist and good governance advocate, has for the past two years maintained the tempo of rural journalism practice and social emancipation programs and interventions in Umuaka Municipal Council. Since the newspaper came into existence in August 2019, there has never been a week that the newspaper failed to publish a new edition. Because of the landmark excellence the online weekly newspaper has achieved in the last two years, Akalites both in and outside Nigeria now see the newspaper as a valid and undisputable reference point to get information about the events concerning Umuaka, Igboland, Akalites and others across the globe.
In about 25 countries, Umuaka Times has correspondents who file reports to the newspaper concerning the lives of Ndi Igbo and Umuaka people in those countries.
By last December 2020, the newspaper has rewarded many citizens who have contributed in many ways to the development of the community and beyond with several merit awards. None Akalites who made positive impact in their chosen careers, have also won several Umuaka Times awards merit.
The newspaper has also helped in several of its capacities to promote social developments and assisted the community and several Akalites in many ways.
Perhaps the greatest achievement of the Umuaka Times online newspaper was the success and popularity the newspaper achieved few months after its maiden edition and the excellence it has demonstrated in putting Umuaka community in global map. Today Umuaka Times is known for the emulation of the journalistic wizardry of the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Moscow Times, Washington Times and the Sunday Times of London.
In appreciation of the role Umuaka Times is playing, great and high profile Akalites especially those in Diaspora have at different times, demonstrated their support to the newspaper.
Umuaka Times is a non-profit online media organization with a special focus on Imo State. The organization works in promotion and actualization of positive change in the society through viable, balanced and rural journalism practice, promotion of freedom of expression, advancement of democracy, access to accurate information, human rights, capacity building for youths, Nigerian women and girls.
Umuaka Times believes actively in social inclusivity and the celebration of human dignity regardless of class, gender, social classifications, economic status, and other sociopolitical and economic demographics.
The publisher of Umuaka Times uses this opportunity to say a big thank you to all the Akalites and none Akalites both in and outside Nigeria who have contributed in diverse ways to the development of the newspaper.
