Akajiugo calls for world class education in Igboland.

2 min read

Chief Marcel Duruchukwu, the Akajiugo 1 of Umuaka and a high profile legal luminary based in Kano State has called for the establishment of world class primary and secondary schools in Igboland in order to convince Igbo men and women overseas to bring their children home in Nigeria to strengthen their Igboness both in character and outlook. The famous attorney was reacting to the famous speech made by Guyana based Akalite and social critic Mr Ernest Amagwula who is known as Olaedo. In the controversial speech which went viral last week, Olaedo lamented that Umuaka has lost most of her children who were born overseas to western culture and socialization.

While reacting to the controversial voice note made by Olaedo, the Akajiugo admitted that what Olaedo said was nothing but the whole truth and recommends that the speech “should agitate the mind of every right thinking Igbo man for truly we are losing it totally. We should be brainstorming about solutions.”

In his own view, the legal luminary suggests that “One of the solutions to the malady in my humble view is the establishment of world class boarding primary and secondary schools in Igboland by our diasporas. Igbo language and culture should be made compulsory in the schools. Any child who attends such a school in his formative age will always desire to come home.”

On the workability of the proposal by Akajiugo, he admittedly confessed that it would be a very difficult task but possible to achieve. He cited the example of such a project where “Chief Nzeribe from Awo Omama tried it in the early 60s and it was a huge success until the devastating civil war occurred and scattered his noble project.”

In his conclusion, the legal luminary appealed to Igbo men and women in diaspora to think towards his suggestion and make it happen.
