Chidi Duruji gives situation report from Ukraine.
2 min readChidi Duruji, an Akalite who lives in Ukraine, last week spoke with Umuaka Times correspondent in Russia on the situation in Ukraine. According to him, many Nigerians who lived in the European countrye have all fled the country to other nearby countries. Umuaka Times gathered that Akalites who used to live in in the war torn Ukraine have moved to some other countries where they have people that would assist them in one way or the other.
In his response to the questions posed to him by Umuaka Times, Duruji confirmed that some Akalites are still in some hotels till now while some others have been given some apartments in their new countries of residence.
Duruji who was among some Akalites and Nigerians who found themselves in Germany, used the opportunity and thanked the government of Germany for the care and assistance they have been receiving from the government.”We receive a little financial support here from the government as refugees. They have provided accommodations to us also.”
On his final message, he regretted that one particular Akalite is still trapped in Ukraine. In fact, according to him, the war has indeed reached to the neighbourhood and the boy now totally lives in fear.. Duruji disclosed to Umuaka Times that he and other Akalites who have left Ukraine as refugees to other European countries are intensifying efforts to make sure the Akalite comes out of Ukraine safely.
For now, many Akalites who left Ukraine as refugees are living fine in their new countries of residence in Europe.
