3 min readOn Friday January 1st, 2021, the Umunkuta kindred held its usual Umunkuta Day celebration at the popular Amaocha Umunkuta square in Amiyi one of the villages in the old Umuaka town. This year’s celebration was a positive shift from the usual ceremony as Chief Victor Esomonu, Kpakpandu 1, used the opportunity to provide free medical services to the indigenes of the community and other people as well. The medical mission which was a part of the activities from Kpakpandu Charity Foundation had a team of medical experts and other health workers attend to the people in the best way they could.
When Umuaka Times visited the venue of the event, some women and men were spotted receiving treatments from different doctors and medical teams at the mission.
Some of the people who spoke to Umuaka Times expressed their joy over the free medical services from one of their illustrious sons. Rev Patrick Philip, the director-general of Kpakpandu Charity Foundation who spoke with Umuaka Times confirmed that the free Medicare is for everyone who wished to take part in the program. According to him, this is the second year of the free medical mission from the foundation. He further told Umuaka Times that his kinsmen and women received the medical team with open mind.

Another fellow who spoke with Umuaka Times was Comrade Oscar Chinonso Onuoha, a son of the soil. He told Umuaka Times that every First January, the sons and daughters of Umunkuta gather to thank God for keeping them alive and hand over their future to God. He said the ceremony was handed over to them by their forefathers who first started it. He used the opportunity to thank the whole community for the love shown so far by the Umunkuta children.

On the Medicare, he expressed his happiness over the role played by the Kpakpandu Charity Foundation and asked God to protect the people behind the foundation.
The last fellow who spoke with Umuaka Times was Mrs Ada Ukadike, the woman leader of Duruaro clan in Umunkuta. Mrs Ada Ukadike described the kind gesture from the Kpakpandu Foundation as something worthy of commendation. “it is a selfless gesture and I pray that God will continue to bless the man behind the foundation.”

At the end of the program, over 100 persons with different ailments were attended to by the medical team.

All preparations concluded for Miss Duruigbo burial.
According to what Umuaka Times gathered recently about the burial of the late famous teacher, moralist and a dedicated Christian woman Miss Josephine Nwaulari Duruigbo also know as Miss Duruigbo, every activity and plan have slated accord her a befitting burial has been concluded in excellent order. This disclosure was made by one of the children of the late teacher, Mr Emma Duruigbo, the principal partner Ducex Solicitors. Duruigbo told Umuaka Times that during the burial ceremony, many groups including the Imo State wing of Nigerian Union of Teachers NUT, Proactive Diamond Club of Nigeria, legal practitioners, Old Boys Association of High School Umuaka, Christian fathers and mothers and a host of others are expected at the funeral.
On the issue of security during the burial, Duruigbo confirmed to Umuaka Times that the area of security is a very sensitive one and for that, the family had also contacted the police and other relevant security outfits to ensure that there would be no theft or security breaches during the burial which will take place on Jan 4, 2021 at the Duruigbo compound Uba Umuaka.
