Igbo leaders in Atlanta Georgia last week held an interactive reception organized in honour of Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN. The event which brought several Igbo leaders based in Atlanta Georgia together was held at the law offices Dr Chris Nwachukwu, an Imo State born philanthropist and the principal attorney, Nwachukwu & Associates Law Offices Atlanta Georgia.

According to Umuaka Times correspondent in America, the reception was held to thank Chief Ozekhome for his successful legal battle for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. When the event began, Dr Chris Nwachukwu took time and welcomed Ozekhome and introduced several Igbo leaders and their current and former offices to the august visitor. Chief Tony Okpara (Ebubedike) who was the former president of Orlu Regional Assembly, ORAUSA was also present at the event with several other Igbo elites. Each of them later introduced himself as the event progressed.

While responding to the speeches made by the guests at the event, Chief Ozekhome first of all sang a song titled, “He is a miracle working God,” before he made his presentations. He thanked the people for finding time to organize the reception and further narrated how he, Nnamdi Kanu and Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the former attorney handling the Nnamdi Kanu case reached a comprise on the legal representation of the detained IPOB leader.

During the question and answer session of the event, someone requested to know from Chief Ozekhome what the next move would be towards the release of Kanu. Ozekhome answered immediately and informed the audience that the Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team was already at the Supreme Court to right the wrong.

Okekhome disclosed that he had told the Federal Government of Nigeria via the court that for peace to reign in the South East and peaceful elections held in the region come 2023, Nnamdi Kanu must be released. From his own findings, the day the Appeal Court set Mazi Kanu free, there was total jubilation across all states and towns in Igboland including Lagos and Abuja. As it stands now, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been set free in the papers but it is yet to be actualized in reality.

Now the real battle begins.
